Netherlands Magnetic Media Imports
In 2023, imports of magnetic media, not recorded, except cards with a magnetic stripe into the Netherlands fell sharply to 1.3M units, with a decrease of -82.8% on the previous year. Overall, imports showed a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2022 with an increase of 577%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at 11M units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, magnetic media imports dropped dramatically to $36M (IndexBox estimates) in 2023. Over the period under review, imports showed a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2022 when imports increased by 165%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $193M in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country
In 2023, the Czech Republic (596K units) constituted the largest supplier of magnetic media to the Netherlands, accounting for a 46% share of total imports. Moreover, magnetic media imports from the Czech Republic exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (154K units), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Japan (134K units), with a 10% share.
From 2013 to 2023, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the Czech Republic stood at +52.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (-1.7% per year) and Japan (-32.3% per year).
In value terms, the Czech Republic ($13M), Japan ($9.1M) and Belgium ($4.7M) appeared to be the largest magnetic media suppliers to the Netherlands, with a combined 74% share of total imports.

Import Prices by Country

In general, import price indicated a notable increase from 2013 to 2023: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, magnetic media import price decreased by -15.6% against 2021 indices. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $33 per unit in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2023, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($68 per unit), while the price for China ($12 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
