If you’re thinking of rushing a sorority and joining greek life this year, it’s incredibly important to learn as much as you can before going through the recruitment process. To make rush week a little easier and less intimidating, we’ve come up with 30 questions to ask sorority sisters during recruitment!
Asking rushing questions are one of the most important parts in helping you decide what sorority is the best fit for you!
Questions help you understand the chapter’s values and priorities, so you can ensure they align with yours. With that said, asking the right questions, can really give you a better understanding of sorority life including learning about the chapters culture, involvement opportunities, support systems,transparency and expectations.
The best times to ask future sorority sisters questions during the recruitment process is during the formal or informal recruitment events. For example open houses and invitational parties. These events are geared towards mingling which can make them the perfect time to learn more!
The Open Houses
Open houses are the best way to tour the chapter’s facility and meet with current sorority members who can answer all of your questions. Open houses give you exposure to a lot of the sisters in a more relaxed environment.
Party Rounds
Many campus’s do not allow for informal rush parties at sororities as it can be seen as dirty rushing. Dirty rushing refers to unethical or manipulative recruitment tactics used by sororities during the rush process. This could include lying, pressuring prospective members, and or using personal information against students.
Sororities will however have formal party rounds that are invitation only. These occur throughout rush. These parties are a great way for you to ask questions and for sisters to get to know you better.

- What makes the sisterhood within your chapter unique?
- Does your chapter have a philanthropic partner?
- How do you and your sisters stay involved in the community?
- Can you tell me about any leadership opportunities available?
- How does your chapter support its members academically?
- How does your chapter handle conflict within the sisterhood?
- Can you tell me about unique traditions that your chapter holds?
- How does your chapter support the mental health of its members?
- Can you tell me about any networking opportunities within your chapter?
- How does your chapter support its members professionally?
- Can you tell me about any international opportunities available through your chapter?
- Where does your chapter stand on hazing?
- Can you tell me about any social events that your chapter plans on a regular basis?
- How does your chapter handle finances and budgeting?
- Can you tell me about any opportunities for professional development within your chapter?
- How does your chapter handle differences of opinions?
- Can you tell me about any opportunities for sisters to attend conferences?
- How does your chapter handle balancing academics with involvement in the chapter?
- Can you tell me about opportunities for sisters to get involved in campus or community organizations?

Additional Tips
Every Sorority is Different!
Every sorority is different and therefore will likely have different answers to the questions above. That’s why is so important to ask them! Make sure you go in with an open mind, that way you get a better understanding of what sorority is the best fit for you.
The questions above are a starting point. We recommend thinking up your own set of questions during sorority recruitment that are specific to you. A sorority is a sisterhood and you want to make sure that it is a good fit for your personality and lifestyle.
Also don’t be afraid to ask fun questions that are more unique! Rushing shouldn’t feel like a job interview, you want to stand out and show your personality.
Open-ended Questions
Never ask questions that can have a one-word answer. You want to ask questions that can lead to a meaningful conversation. The sisters want to get to know potential new members on a personal level to make sure it’s the perfect fit.
Make Eye Contact
To ensure you put your best foot forward during your sorority parties, make sure to make eye contact and listen to the answers you’re getting. Even if you’re nervous it’s important to not only ask the right questions but leave a lasting impression!
Family Members
If you happen to have family members that have been in one of the sororities you’re rushing, they can be a great resource to you. Learning from first hand experiences can help you determine the best fit for you.
Recruitment counselor
Some sororities have a recruitment consoler also known as an Rho Gamma or a Recruitment Guide. They are a member of a sorority who has been selected to assist with the recruitment process for new members. Their role is to help guide prospective members through the recruitment process and answer any questions or concerns that may arise.
A requirement consoler should act neutral and unbiased during recruitment to better help you through rush.
